PhD Turns 40!
A meeting–discussion–debate about past–present–future with those who made the history of robotics research in Italy back when they were still PhD students.
“What was the biggest disagreement you had with your supervisor when you were still a PhD student? What was the research idea you were most proud of? And the biggest obstacle? Have you ever felt like someone stole your idea? What was the first paper you got accepted? What was the first paper you had high hopes for and that got rejected? Were you terrified during your first conference presentation? What was the harshest question anyone asked you? Is it true that the camera-ready version of a paper had to be printed and sent using a device called a Fax?”
This year, at IRIM 3D, all PhD students will, for the first time in forty years, have an incredible opportunity: to chat informally, off the record, with those who made the history of robotics research in Italy—poke their memories, listen to their stories, even the more forbidden ones, the ones they’re shy to tell. Together, we’ll try to understand what has happened over 40 cycles of PhDs in Italy—the good and the bad—in order to compare the present and the past, and to find new motivations and ideas for pursuing a PhD journey.
Students of robotics and intelligent machines, don’t miss out! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and those who skip it will regret it forever.
The event is sponsored by DRIM, PhD Program in Robotics and Intelligent Machines
